1999: The Victorian Year in Steam 1999 provided a variety of steam action on main and tourist lines in Victoria. Enthusiast trips, a triple header, special railfan weekend operations at Maldon and many double-headed combinations provided spectacular sound and vision. As well as state-wide normal steam workings, modernised R 711 turned in spectacular performances on the West Coast Railway.
A two hour almanac featuring over 50 operations, including:
- Double R class on an "Overland" recreation with spectacular night vision and sound;
- Maldon "SteamFreight '99" action in winter weather;
- R 711 on the Warrnambool, Ballarat and Bendigo lines;
- J 515's struggle on Ingliston Bank;
- Bellarine Peninsula Railway easter steam extravaganza;
- Evocative night scenes in the city and country;
- R class on regular service trains (for the last time due to private management in Victoria now being strongly "anti-steam");
- Puffing Billy and Alexandra Timber Railway action;
- tender to tender R class on a pass;
- last run of R 766 as a coal burner;
- and much, much more....
