This concise history describes the narrow gauge railways of Quorn and Port Augusta. It includes the story of the development of the Central Australia Railway from the construction of the Port Augusta to Government Gums Railway, commenced in 1877, through to the dismantling of the Marree to Alice Springs section in 1983. Also featured are the origins and exploits of the legendary Ghan train services and its final arrival in Darwin.
This 200-page book commemorates the first fifty years of the Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society, a volunteer organization devoted to the operation and preservation of 43 km (27 miles) of historic 1,067 mm (3’6”) narrow gauge railway through the Pichi Richi Pass in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia.
